Our Story

Since 2002, Big Relief’s team has helped to catalyze three indigenous aid groups who are actively involved in feeding, sheltering, and providing clean water for 165,000 people in the midst of conflicts across Myanmar.

Our Purpose

Big Relief exists to raise up and champion indigenous leaders who transform their communities through a multifaceted approach to address social, educational, and physical needs within the community.  Big Relief endeavors to coach catalytic leaders that work to advance food security and agricultural development, clean water, microfinance, and livelihood, as well as improve standards of health in impoverished areas and peoples.

The 'core' of our work

The revolving IDP (Internally Displaced People) situation occurs approximately every two months, displacing about 12,000 people for three months at a time. According to USAID many of these IDPs do not receive help from large aid agencies, and many are falling through the cracks without aid of any kind. GCN partners with grassroots movements of Buddhists, Christians, and Muslims to provide relief for their own people suffering under the circumstances of their country.

What We've Achieved

Translated leadership training materials through 3 aid groups impacting half a million local partners in 49 minority languages of Myanmar, Thailand and Bangladesh.  

Distributed food to over 165,000 internally displaced in Myanmar, Thailand and Bangladesh.

We have provided trade school training and microbusiness opportunities benefiting 500 displaced people to assist in their financial sustainability.

Led flood relief efforts into Karen and Mon states together with many surrounding regions.

Brought essential aid to more than 12,000 flood-affected people from 7 people groups.

Since August of 2017, our Burmese partner organizations have provided aid and relief to over 900,000 people of Rakhine State.
